The Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course is the ideal qualification for those who are working in lower hazard workplaces and smaller numbers of people.
The course is nationally recognised and an excellent support qualification for those who hold the full First aid at work qualification.
The Emergency First Aid at Work qualification is valid for three years from the date of successful completion and meets the criteria in England, Wales, Northern Ireland of a RQF level 3 qualification and in Scotland SCQG level 5
Taught over six contact hours, the course includes practical and theoretical activities.
To keep up to date and to continue as an Emergency first aider in the workplace the qualification must be renewed after three years by retaking the course
The course syllabus includes:
The Legalities and responsibilities of the role for employers and employees, reporting and recording injuries and accidents, Assessing the situation, dealing with an unresponsive casualty, Basic hygiene in First Aid, Burns, Epilepsy, Resuscitation (including the use of a defibrillator), Anatomy, Minor injuries, Bleeding control, Choking, Shock
Assessment and certification
The EFAW course is constantly assessed by the instructor as well as a multiple-choice question paper exam.
Practical roleplay exercises also form part of the process and candidates will be expected to demonstrate competency in the techniques taught.
Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate on other candidates in a range of positions including standing, sitting and on the floor at ground level!
A three-year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria.
It should be noted that the HSE and the resuscitation council strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of three hours. (put link into that page)
and a three-year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria.
There is a maximum group size of 12 learners per instructor.
All of our courses at A&S Safety are orientated towards the workplace and the minimum age of candidates on our courses therefore is 16 as individuals below this age cannot assume any responsibility in the workplace.
