Description

Early recognition, Early help and Prompt and effective CPR or the use of an Automated External Defibrillation device and prompt advanced hospital care can dramatically increase someone’s chances of survival from a cardiac arrest

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) have become an increasingly common sight in both workplaces and in the community for very good reason. They save lives!

This nationally recognised, level 2 regulated course provides training in basic life support and resuscitation, as well as giving candidates the knowledge to use an AED confidently and competently.

Qualification details

The Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillator course is valid for three years from the date of successful completion and meets the criteria in England, Wales and Northern Ireland of an RQF level 2 qualification and in Scotland the SCQG level 5 qualification

The course is taught over four hours and includes practical and theoretical activities.

Course syllabus

The course syllabuses include…
The Legalities and responsibilities of the role for employers and employees, reporting and recording injuries and accidents, Assessing the situation, Dealing with an unresponsive casualty, Resuscitation, Infection control, What is an AED, Defibrillation procedure, Safety measures.

Assessment and certification

The Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillator course is constantly assessed by the instructor as well as a multiple-choice question paper exam.
Practical exercises also form part of the assessment process and candidates will be expected to demonstrate competency in the techniques taught.

Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate techniques in a range of positions including standing, sitting and on the floor at ground level!

It should be noted that the HSE and the resuscitation council strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of three hours. (put link into that page)

A three-year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria.

Group sizes

There is a maximum group size of 12 learners per instructor.
All of our courses at A&S Safety are orientated towards the workplace and the minimum age of candidates on our courses therefore is 16 as individuals below this age cannot assume any responsibility in the workplace.
