Description

This course is designed for existing holders of a current First Aid at Work qualification which is due to expire, or where candidates would like to refresh and update their first aid knowledge, and revalidate their qualification for a further three years.

A First Aider can renew their FAW qualification by attending a two-day renewal course without question, if it’s within one month of the expiry date.

If the First Aider has lapsed beyond one-month A&S Safety recommend that a full three-day course is attended.
It is important to remember that once the certificate expires, the First Aider is no longer considered competent to act as a First Aider in the workplace.

IMPORTANT NOTE –
During the Coronavirus pandemic the HSE allowed Extensions to first aid qualifications in the following circumstances:
If a first aid certificate is held that expires on or after 16 March 2020 and the individual cannot access requalification training because of coronavirus you may qualify for a 3-month extension. This applies to:
Offshore Medic (OM)
Offshore First Aid (OFA)
First Aid at Work (FAW)
Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

To qualify for the extension, you must be able to explain why you haven’t been able to requalify and demonstrate what steps you have taken to access the training, if asked to do so.

Qualification details

The First Aid at Work qualification is valid for three years from the date of successful completion and meets the criteria in England, Wales, Northern Ireland of a RQF level 3 qualification and in Scotland SCQG level 6

The course syllabuses is comprehensive and includes…

Assessment and certification

The FAW requalification course is constantly assessed by the instructor as well as a multiple-choice question paper exam after each day training.
Practical exercises also form part of the assessment process and candidates will be expected to demonstrate competency in the techniques taught.

Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate on other candidates in a range of positions including standing, sitting and on the floor at ground level!
A three-year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria.

It should be noted that the HSE and the resuscitation council strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of three hours. (put link into that page)

A three-year qualification will be issued to those who satisfy the criteria.
